Orange Number 3 : A5 Original Drawing: The Rainbow Faces Project
The Rainbow Faces Project
Seven colours of the rainbow, released over seven days of Advent.
These little rainbow-hued faces began as part of a daily drawing challenge I started in May 2025. What was meant to be a one-month practice stretched into two months… and now I’m on my way to completing a full year! The intention was simply to stay consistent—just a few minutes of drawing each day. But sitting down to make something small often led to something playful, which led to more time creating.
I found myself returning to these tiny faces again and again: sweet, simple, and endlessly varied. Each one is an original, hand-drawn artwork, made using different materials—watercolour, acrylic, ink, oil pastel, coloured pencil, graphite lino print, mono print, and more. Working with such a minimal motif gave me the freedom to explore colour, texture, surfaces, and printmaking techniques. Sometimes a face would accidentally resemble someone I know; other times it became a joyful experiment in colour and mark-making.
As the year drew to a close, I set myself a final challenge: to create a series in all the colours of the rainbow, imagining them displayed together in a gentle gradient of colour and expression.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I’ve loved creating them.
